Meet Tom Jones, Nemours Estate

What does it mean to represent Nemours Children’s in this event?

I work over at Nemours Estate and just love my job. I get to work outside every day. It’s such a beautiful place, and I feel that I am a valued member of my team. I love the fact that Nemours is a sponsor at this race, I feel that these events are helping the community and are in line with our mission of well beyond medicine.

What is your favorite music to run to?

My favorite song Is probably “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC or “Holy Ground” by Taylor Swift.

What’s your favorite post-race food or snack?

I like pizza, soft pretzels, or chocolate chip cookies after a race.

What’s a motivating tip you want to share?

My motivation for training is just finishing the run. After I run, I feel that I accomplished something and know that I am working towards my race goals. During races, I am always motivated to finish as strong as possible and try to improve my previous times.

Meet Sarah Flynn, Physician Assistant

Why did you enter to win a race bib for this event?

I want to show my kids that racing is fun! It’s a great way to stay active and healthy, and I hope they’ll see that and want to join in, too.

What does it mean to represent Nemours Children’s in this event?

I feel lucky to work for Nemours. My colleagues share the same passion as I do for caring for our Healthy Weight and Wellness patients, and it’s incredible to be part of such a dedicated team.

Where is your favorite place to train and why?

I love being outside in nature. There’s just something so rejuvenating about getting some fresh air and sunshine.

What’s your favorite post-race food or snack?

My go-to post-race snack is always pizza. It’s the perfect way to refuel and celebrate all the hard work I’ve put in.

What’s a training tip you want to share?

I like to use music for my training sessions. My favorite song to run to is “Bejeweled” by Taylor Swift. It’s got a great beat that keeps me motivated and energized.

Meet Lauren Miller, Clinical Nurse Educator

Why did you enter to win a race bib for this event?

I’ve run the Philadelphia half marathon many times and the full marathon once; I love this race.  It is a beautiful time of year to train and it’s always a fun one.

What does it mean to represent Nemours Children’s in this event?

I truly love the people I work with and feel like I have a work family here at Nemours.  I’ve also had countless opportunities to grow professionally since coming to Nemours; I have always felt very supported to try something new. I was truly excited to see that Nemours is sponsoring the kid’s run. I am proud to work for Nemours and to represent this organization in our community.

What is your favorite music to run to?

I often run to “All Day” by Girl Talk, which is an album composed of 372 songs by other artists, overlapped.  It’s fun and upbeat and runs as a single track for over an hour, giving me lots of time to train without thinking about what’s up next.  I’ve run to it so many times, I can gauge my mileage by the music.

What’s your favorite post-race food or snack?

Immediately after the race, I go for the banana, but brunch is always in order after I catch my breath.

What motivates you to keep running?

My motivation has changed over the years.  I started running after reading a statistic that less than 1% of the population has run a marathon, thinking: I could do that.  After a while, I found that I liked running and spent many years entering several races per year, using half marathons as an excuse to travel and see new places.  As demands at home and work have changed, I’ve found myself running less, so this race is motivating me to get back to it and get in better shape as my 40th birthday looms in the near future.
