Kinsley’s Story: A Journey of Hope

Our daughter Kinsley’s story began with a broken leg at a very young age. When the cast came off, she refused to walk. Although she showed some other symptoms like a relentless fever and sleeping a lot, “we never anticipated she had cancer,” her parents added.

“Kinsley was diagnosed at age 2 with a very rare form of leukemia known as near haploid B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This type of leukemia makes up less than 1% of all leukemias worldwide, and comes with a very dismal prognosis.”

The months that followed were painful and overwhelming. Kinsley suffered severe side effects during and after treatment. “Watching your child suffer through this horrendous journey is gut-wrenching. It’s brutal, especially when as a parent you can’t do anything but sit on the sidelines and watch. Watch and pray,” her parents said.

Despite the challenges, Kinsley showed incredible resilience. She had four bone marrow biopsies in less than a year because her doctors wanted to ensure she was in remission. Kinsley not only got into remission very quickly — she has remained cancer free! Kinsley is due to finish treatment after a journey lasting over 2 years.

Today, hope shines brightly. Her parents shared, “Kinsley is thriving and living her best life. She has started voluntary pre-kindergarten and loves school.”

Her family credits Nemours Children’s for making their daughter’s future possible. “We are incredibly grateful to the doctors and nurses at Nemours. Honestly, they have become family. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them. I credit them with saving Kinsley’s life and how do you ever repay them for that? I will be forever indebted to the doctors and nurses for saving Kinsley. We absolutely love all of them, and they all love Kinsley back. And it absolutely shows. These doctors and nurses will forever be family.”

If there is one message the family hopes to share, it is this. “If I can give anyone anything, it’s hope. Kinsley’s story is just that: a story of resilience, hope, bravery, and strength. We were given the worst news possible with a very low chance of survival. Yet here we are! Your child isn’t a statistic. Kinsley is nothing shy of hope and light.”
