Solomiya was born in Ukraine and always dreamed of working in pediatric healthcare. Little did she know, her path would lead to the heart of emergency medicine in the United States. Her journey started when she moved to the U.S. as a child. She became the first member of her family to achieve a college education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She was always excited about learning and didn’t stop at the undergraduate level. She enrolled in a master’s program at Wilmington University, determined to enhance her skills and knowledge.
Solomiya says, “Initially, I dreamt of a career in pediatric care, but my heart led me in a different direction. It all began during my time as an ER tech at Crozer, where my very first shift in the Emergency Department (ED) opened my eyes to the exciting world of critical care. I discovered a deep love for the ED. It’s a place where every day brings a unique set of challenges, and where teamwork, quick thinking, and critical decision-making are important.”
After 12 years of dedicated service in adult emergency medicine, she embarked on a new chapter by joining Nemours Children’s Health. She spent five years crafting her skills and knowledge. Her experience at Nemours Children’s had been transformative. At Nemours, she was encouraged by a colleague to take on a new role as a flow supervisor in December 2022. This transition has allowed her to contribute to the efficient functioning of the ED while still staying close to the dynamic environment that first captivated her heart.
“What I cherish most about my work in the ED is the constant learning and growth it offers. I love the fast pace, the wide variety of cases, and the teamwork required to provide life-saving care. Whether it’s handling trauma cases, recognizing life-threatening illnesses and injuries, or simply being there for those in need, I find fulfillment in knowing that my actions make a difference.”
As Solomiya hones her skills to provide the best care possible, she knows she will only progress with time. She’s so ready for the future and to provide the best care to children possible.
“My career has been shaped by a journey that began in Ukraine, continued through education and dedication, and now finds me at the helm of an Emergency Department as a flow supervisor. Each day brings a new opportunity to use my skills and experience to provide critical care, and I look forward to many more years of learning, growing, and making a meaningful impact in the world of healthcare.”
