Erin’s path in healthcare began as an EMT and Paramedic working for a fire department. However, she had big dreams of becoming a flight RN one day.
“While completing school for nursing, I had the opportunity to work as a civilian combat medic in Afghanistan where I was able to provide aid to our soldiers and fly,” shares Erin. “From there, I was able to get a job at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida as a Paramedic in the Clinical Logistics Center until I received my RN license. I then began working in the RN resource pool, allowing me to get experience in all units of the hospital. I developed a passion for pediatric and neonatal cardiac and used that strength and experience to allow me to join the Nemours Transport Team.” Through hard work and determination, Erin found her home at Nemours on the Critical Care and Transport Team where she now serves as the Transport and Transfer Center RN Manager.
What drew Erin to Nemours was more than just a career opportunity, it was the promise of exceptional care for those in need. “I remember when Nemours was still under construction,” says Erin. “Every time I passed it on the highway, I would always tell my husband that, that was where I wanted to work someday. Nemours has kept me here due to their culture of caring for the patients, family, and staff as a whole.”
Beyond her work at Nemours, Erin leads a life full of passion and adrenaline. Her hobbies outside of work might surprise some of her patients. Erin is an avid car enthusiast, finding joy in building and driving race cars at the local track. With her husband’s help, she takes pride in her builds, putting them to the test on the track. “The racing that I am learning to perfect is drifting,” says Erin. “My other hobby is watching Formula Drift. I am friends with and volunteer to be part of the pit crew for Pro Formula Drifter Rudy Hansen at two of his rounds.”
Erin’s love for racing may seem worlds apart from her role in critical care transport, but she’s discovered surprising connections between her hobbies and her profession. “My current position with the Critical Care Transport Team has a connection with my automotive hobby due to working closely with the ambulances to ensure safe operations and performance,” says Erin. “And the adrenaline rush of getting in a helicopter is also related to the rush I get when out of the track.”
In a profession often marked by seriousness and intensity, Erin’s hobbies offer a refreshing balance. But her connection with her patients doesn’t end at the hospital doors. She recalls a heartwarming moment when bonding over cars helped ease a young patient’s nerves before a procedure. “To everyone else in the room, it appeared we were speaking another language as we did not stop until well after the procedure was completed,” says Erin.
Whether she’s navigating the complexities of critical care transport or drifting around the racetrack, Erin Taylor embodies the spirit of dedication and compassion that defines Nemours Children’s Health.
